Ranch Dipping Sauce with Gherkin

With the summer well and truly in swing, it’s time to BBQ some awesome meals in the glorious sunshine. This ranch dipping sauce with gherkin takes standard sauces up a few notches, and is perfect for ribs, chicken wings and grilled vegetables. It’s even great with cod goujon!

Ranch Dipping Sauce with Gherkin

5-10 mins prep
2-24 hours cooling
300 ml
Serve with
Salt ‘v’ vinegar chicken wings
BBQ spare ribs


  • Small bowl with lid (or clingfilm)
  • Measuring jug and spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Chopping board
  • Mixing fork


  • 200g mayonnaise
  • 100g sour cream
  • 50g cocktail gherkins
  • 2 tsp finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • ½ tsp dried dill weed
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch black pepper
  • Fresh lemon juice


  1. Pat the cocktail gherkins dry then finely chop them.
  2. Combine all of the ingredients except the lemon juice into a bowl, mix them all up with a fork. Then add a little lemon juice to taste.
  3. Put a lid (or clingfilm) on the bowl and store in a fridge overnight.
